Carleton OUA #1 Report
By:  Team XC Ottawa   (2009/01/23)

XC Ottawa had a strong representation at last weekend's Ontario Cup #2 and OUA #1 in North Bay.  The weekend started with an individual start classic race with the men racing 16km and the women 10km.  Collin Abbot, just a "rookie" on the Carleton team dominated the university field placing 1st by 42 seconds!  He came 2nd overall, behind Nakkertok's Steffan Lloyd.  Matthias Purdon had a strong perfomance placing 5th in the university category despite battling a cold.  Justin Demers skied well crossing the line in 4th in open men.

On the women's side, Alana Thomas cleaned up the field by winning both the university and open women category.  Zoe Braul had a strong race placing 2nd in junior women and 3rd in university.  Adele Lay raced hard and secured herself a 3rd place finish in junior women and 4th in university.  Brittany Pearson had a good race placing 9th in junior women (even though she is actually a junior girl).

Sunday was a skate individual start with the men racing 10km and women 5km.  It was another great day for Alana who collected two more gold medals.  She was 1st in both the open women and in university.  Adele was in her element in the short skate race and had an excellent result with a 2nd place finish overall and in university.  Zoe surprised herself with a 4th place finish in university.  Brittany had a strong 10th place finish in junior women.

Nakkertok's Aidan Lennie had a great race placing first overall.  Collin had another speedy race finishing 3rd in university behind two strong Lakehead men.  Matthias did well placing 5th in university and Justin had another solid race placing 3rd in open men.
