Three of the XC Ottawa's rookies (Lindsay, Alana and I) went to last weekend's Ontario Cup in T-Bay. We travelled with the Carleton team. Lappe Nordic probably had the best snow conditions of the province. The entire time the temperature was around -7°C and overcast or snowing lightly. I wasn't there for the sprints on Thursday but Alana was there and did very well. She came 2nd in Junior Women for the qualifiers and won the heats!
On Saturday, Alana came 2nd in the 10km classic, only 1:39 behind Karla Mika, member of the INDi2010 Team.
On Sunday, we had a 10km free mass start. Alana picked up another medal, but this time another gold.
But during this weekend of racing, I've decided that the Finns have the probably the best traditions possible: cross-country ski hard, then eat tons of Finnish pancakes and strawberry sauce and then take a nice long sauna (preferably in the buff).
p.s. If you're ever in Thunder Bay, you MUST eat at the Hoito. It's quite possibly the best Finnish diner ever. For the full experience, sit with the old Finnish men sitting around the bar.

Lindsay and Alana also enjoying the pancakes.
