Hello and welcome to tropical Ottawa. Did I say tropical, I meant bone chilling, frost bite causing and generally cold Ottawa. As you may have guessed from the opening it was pretty cold here this weekend. But Canadians showed their mettle and still came out in record numbers to ski.
I decided to try the 50 km classic this year just for something different. It was my first 50km classic and it was definately memorable. There were 400 starters with a few past champions in the field. Phil Shaw, a legendary tough man from Quebec, blew the race open at 4km and left the rest of us gasping for air. Guido Vissor was the only man strong enough to go after Phil and managed outsprinted Mr. Shaw to the line after a hard chase. I was left skiing with two other legendary guys, Richard Webber and Pierre Harvey. We battled to the finish and I just out sprinted Pierre for the bronze. I would like to thank my ski sponsor Karhu who provided rocket skis as usual and E-Load sports drink for keeping my weary body strong to the finish. Also I would like to thank the volunteers, especially the feed station workers, I had plenty to drink and eat; thank you for putting in the long day. Bye for now,Chad
