Jim Howe Memorial Run 2013

One of my favourite races of year, the Jim Howe Memorial Run, took place on the 20th of October this year. As usual, the organizers put on a great event. There was not a single clean, dry shoe to be found anywhere near Hornet's Nest, once the racers were done! The ginormous (and deep) puddle near the startline, proves that fact:

Kyla and I were the XCOttawa representatives at the event. Karl, the overall 11k winner of the Jim Howe of the last few years, couldn’t make it that day, leaving the field wide open for a new contender for the top spot. A pleasant surprise was Anna Geiger-Whitlock,  XCOttawa Alumnus, who joined us to run the 5.5k.

Here we are at the startline, freezing, all revved up and quite ready to go:

A few minutes later we were off!

I ran the 11k, which meant that my legs were twice as muddy:

Kyla ran the 5.5k course; here she is, coming down a steep hill:

After a very successful result at the elementary schools’ cross-country running meet, my 10 year old brother, Thomas, decided that he hadn’t had enough. He also raced the 5.5k course. Here he is trying very hard to chase down Kyla. He looks pretty fierce, and determined!

We were all quite happy, muddy and soaked once we were done. Kyla finished first in the 20-29 year old female category in the 5.5k. I was top overall female in the 11k. I was even more proud of Thomas, who finished first in the 14 and under category for the 5.5k.
