Last week marked the 4th Coupe Quebec, located in Far Hills, about 2 hours north of Ottawa. With Nationals just around the corner, this was deemed a good tune-up for Karl, Ingrid, Katie, Sheila, and Kyla. It was a beautiful weekend of warm weather and fast racing! Justin Demers continued his excellent performance as a wax tech and gave us all very fast and grippy skis.

Things kicked off on Saturday with a 10km skate for the men, and a 7.5km skate for the women, both individual start. After an unplanned detour on the way to the race site, Karl rushed through his warm-up and still managed to pull off an impressive 15th place in a deep field. The women were up next, with Sheila placing 3rd overall, Kyla pulled off an impressive 5th, Ingrid was 12th, and Katie was 20th.
Saturday's Wax: Glide - Vauhti HF Blue covered with Vauhti Gold Fox Bloc and Medium Gel

The warm temperatures were not meant to last, as the area was plunged down to a chilly -18 that night. This made for perfect waxing conditions for the Sunday's 10/15km classic mass start. Once again, Karl was up first and was ready to go after a full warm-up. Wearing bib #3, he was in the lead pack for the whole race and just missed out on a lunge with Laval's Fred Touchette, and finished 3rd. The women were quick to follow suit. Sheila, Ingrid and Katie navigated 2 laps of the challenging 5km course, including some nice striding uphills and some very impressive tight corners. Sheila and Ingrid stayed close together for most of the race, with Sheila taking 8th, and Ingrid 9th. Katie finished in 18th after a lonely ski around the course with no other racers in sight.
Sunday's wax: Glide - Vauhti HF Green covered with Vauhti HFC21 powder
Grip - Vauthi Super Binder and Teho Green mixed and heated in, covered with Vauhti K18

After some good racing, it was back to Ottawa for the team, with Nationals close in sight! Stay tuned to the website for updates of Nationals in Cornerbrook, NL.
