Looking for a back-country touring adventure on a beautiful wooded trail? Join in the venerable 25 km North to South Nakkerloppet!
- A fun-filled 25 km backcountry event for the whole family.
- Ski the rugged and beautiful Nakkertok North-South trail in the Gatineau Hills north of Ottawa.
- Entry Fees: $10 for members, $20 for non-members.
- Check www.nakkertok.ca for details.
Every one will meet at 9:00 a.m. sharp! on Sunday, March 2nd at the Nakkertok South parking lot by the Bradford Bunker. Skiers will carpool up to the parking lot at Nakkertok North (directions will be provided) and then leave at 10:00 a.m. from North. There will be hot chocolate and soup at the end of the event at Johannsenhus.
Note: Most of the trail is single track and is quite hilly in sections. Keep in mind that this is an informal back-country tour, not a race. There are no medals and the tour will not be timed. Medium skiers can expect to finish in about four hours (speedsters can do it in 2 hours or less). Capable younger skiers are encouraged to take part provided they are accompanied by an adult.
There will be no feeding stations. Participants will be asked to bring their own water and food. A first aid snowmobile and car will be stationed at Lac Ste Amour (near the half way point). Trail maps will be provided. All skiers will be required to sign a registration/waiver form and sign out at Johannsenhus at the finish.
Simply fill out the form, or download it and bring it with you to the event along with payment. Check the website for trail conditions before you head to Nakkertok. As this is a "no frills" event, the fee will be modest, $10.00 for members and $20.00 for non-members.
