XC Ottawa Early Season Preview
By:  Sheila Kealey   (2010/11/06)

XC Ottawa athletes will be well represented at early season races from coast to coast.  Here's a look at where we're going . . .

Montmorency, Quebec
XC Ottawa has a November tradition of going to Montmorency for an early season on-snow training camp. We've had some amazing years of skiing, and some not-so-good ones (where we cancelled because of no snow, like the last 2 years). We're scheduled to go this week, and have our fingers crossed for snow . . .
Here's what it looked like in 2007

Kyle will be returning  home to participate in an XC Newfoundland training camp and be the first XC Ottawa athlete to don a race bib at the Labrador Open in early December.

Silverstar, British Columbia

A favourite trip for many on the team - a cross-country skier's paradise, with incredible skiing right out the door. The first NorAm races of the season take place in Sovereign Lakes on December 11 and 12. Sheila and Colin will be racing here.

Blackjack Ski Club will be hosting the 2nd stop on the NorAm Circuit. Colin will be racing here December 17-19.

Mont Ste Anne, Quebec
Mont Ste Anne is hosting the season's first Quebec Cup, which is also a selection race for the Canada Winter Games team. Katie, Andre, Karl, Megan, Sheila, Ingrid, and Anna will be racing on December 18, 19, and 20.

Duntroon, Ontario
The first Ontario Cup will be held at Highlands Nordic in Duntroon. Vesta and Matthias will be racing here December 18 and 19.

Whitehorse, Yukon
Another Canada Games selection for several on our team. Colin, Lee, and Logan will be racing on their home course.

Those of us sticking around Ottawa for the holidays will be helping organize and participate in Nakkertok's Boxing Day Burnoff.

Last year's racers braved freezing rain and lots of rain to race at the Boxing Day Burnoff.

Thunder Bay, Ontario
The entire XC Ottawa team will be heading for Thunder Bay, where Lappe Nordic is hosting the third series of Haywood NorAm races. These are important races for many athletes across the country, because results here will help chose teams for the  World Junior Championships, World U23 Championships, and World Championships.
