The Defi Boreal 100K Loppet was back for its sophomore year on March 24th. It is held in Forestville, Quebec on the North Shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, a spectacular 4 hour drive North East of Quebec City.
So after a fun day of manhunting on Saturday, I competed in the 53k Skate Ski at Keskinada on Sunday...
David "Zugga" Zylberberg (sponsored by Karhu) took advantage of the relatively flat course at Porcupine Ski Runner Nordic in Timmins to double pole away from the competition in the first half of the same day pursuit. The victory in the classic leg secured Dave the first spot on Ontario's Canada Winter Games Team.
Racing continued at Easterns with an individual start 10/15km skate
The Mount Orford 30km classic loppet took place on Sunday. As part of the national Salomon Marathon Cup Series, and Quebec’s Coupe Atomic and Challenge Atomic race series, it attracted a competitive field. XC Ottawa’s Tom, Craig, Wayne, Ed, P-O and myself
n Sunday Stanizlav Rezac won his sixth consecutive race at the Keskinada. Last year he won the sprints, the 52km classic race, and the 50km skate race. This year he did it again.
Last weekend two XC Ottawa skiers, Megan and Dave, travelled to Sudbury to represent Carleton University at the Ontario University Championhips. The races took place at Laurentian University on some fun, challenging and well groomed trails.
It all started as I sat at home between skis one February afternoon, doing my best to avoid studying. The ringing phone jolted me out of my meditative repose - let's face it, I was probably playing solitaire...

Saturday's 15km Classic Ontario Cup (Race #3), Gatineau Park, Ottawa - Hosted by Nakkertok Ski Club. The day dawns bright, sunny, and cold. I wake up with a sense of dread, but also excitement.
