The Laurentian University trails were the site of the fourth Ontario Cup event of the season. Both days of racing took place under sunny skies, with perfect temperatures and fast tracks. The kind of day that put a smile on the face of every skier and parent at the sight.

Alana and Craig were the only XCOttawa athletes attending the races. Alana was returning to the site of her recent triple Silver medal weekend during the OUs, which were held on the same course. This weekend though, she came back for the gold.

Saturday's skating race course was a rolling and twisty 7.5km for women and 15km, 2 loops for men. It was the sort of course where it's easy to get into the race if you're feeling good since you are required to turn, tuck and change techniques often - a true roller coaster ride. The ride and the result must have felt fairly familiar for Alana. She skied fast and finished second. Was it inevitable? Andrea Dupont, of Porcupine won by 2s, while Mary Thompson of Hardwood was third 21s back. This setup a good pursuit for the women's race.

Sunday Alana would break her silver streak in the 5km classic. She started just 2s back but with a good cushion to third. She closed the gap fairly quick, but it was a battle all the way. Both Andrea and Alana are known for their sprint prowess, but it didn't come to that as Alana came flying into the stadium with a 4s lead. Finally a little gold in mining town.

Good job Alana!
