This year, Megan and I are the only XC Ottawa athletes who
have ventured out West for some early snow. This is my big “family” vacation,
and I’m here with husband John, son Evan, and friends Sue Schlatter, her
husband Pete, and son Ben.
So far, our time in Silverstar has been excellent! Our only misfortune turned out to be very lucky . . . we were unable to get into the little cabin we’d rented (the owner had changed the access code without informing the rental company), so after quite a bit of standing outside figuring out the situation, we were upgraded to a large house about three times the size with an incredible view. In our original accommodation, Evan and Ben were going to share a bed, now they’re in their own loft that looks like it’s out of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, with a bunch of little beds to choose from!
The skiing has been pretty good. The lower loops close to the village are skiable but need a bit more snow, but the trails heading up the mountain are in excellent shape!
Megan and I are heading to the Sovereign Lakes race course tomorrow for a short time trial. This will be a tune-up for the Weekend NorAm cup races. We’ll race a classic sprint on Saturday, and a duathlon on Sunday.
