Megan and Karl Crash the Indi2010 Training Camp in Duntroon
By: Megan McTavish (2006/10/20)
This past week, the indi2010 racing team held their eastern dryland training camp in Duntroon Ontario. Many of us have raced there in the winter but have not seen the great dryland training the area has to offer. I, on the other hand, have spent countless weekends; winter, summer and fall, training in the area durning my highschool days, so it was fun to return. Larry Sinclair put us up in one of the farmhouses that borders the ski trails. It was a bit like camping with 10 of us sharing the old house that had one bathroom and not quite enough water to serve our needs in the mornings!
The camp consisted of some strength sessions at a local gym, two rollerski intensity workouts, a long run on the famous Bruce Trail, various distance workouts and was capped off with a 5km running race on the Highlands Nordic racing trails. The weather was at times “challenging” as your poles were going sideways while rain and snow drilled into your helmet. It was fun to do intensity battling a ferocious headwind and turning around to do the next one with the wind. To cap it all off, the running race was run in 5-10 cm of snow!
It was great having some new people to train with and learn from. Thanks, Indi2010, for letting us crash your camp!

Megan finding the run so easy she can do it with her eyes closed. (Ha!)
Tasha Betcherman always strong.
