Hi all,

I will be starting up dry land training sessions for members of a local canoe club, some of whom are also skiers. I would like to extend the offer to the adult members of your clubs' who might also be interested. The program is not intended for skiers involved in club competitve programs, but for the adult skiers (i.e 20 and older crowd) who want to do some training with fellow skiers.

Dryland training is the pre-season training to get in shape for winter skiing. It usually consists of interval training, general strength training, roller skiing, fartlek runs through the woods, among other great activities. Some consider this hard work, others see it as a great way to get exercise in the fall. My background is level II coaching certification for cross-country skiing with level III theory. I have a couple of years coaching the University of Ottawa Nordic Ski Team and have helped out with a few local clubs. If dryland training catches your fancy, or you are interested in joining fellow skiers, then send me an email. We will likely start training on Tuesday Sept 5, 5:30 at the Terry Fox facility. Sessions run for about 60-90 minutes. Cost is free, but you will need running shoes, ski poles (classic length, or preferably an inch or so shorter than this), water bottle.

The tranining date will likely change to Thursdays later in Sept to avoid conflicts with other activities.

Can you pass this on to adult members who might think would be interested?

Thanks,

Kevin Gibb
Treasurer, The NCD
