Last Sunday, The Nakkertok
ski club hosted thea’s race on their northern trails. Conditions
were somewhat marginal, with the rain getting pretty heavy and the temperature
hovering around +4°C. The rain went on for all of
the junior and women races and stopped right in time for the men’s
race. The kick wax of choice was in my opinion a red klister mixed
in with a bit of silver. The 6km loop, which we did twice, was
very technical. It included long uphills of several minutes, technical
downhills, and a bit of flat terrain. Everything was well groomed
and marked. For myself, the race went pretty good, I gave a good
effort on the second lap to take the open men victory. Other noticeable
results are: Colleen Mortimer fastest women on the 10km course while
Kristen Petersen (only midget women !!) had the fastest 6km time.
Both received a thea’s race trophy.

For most of the region this
race marked the end of the season but for some of us there is still
a race at mont-saint-ann (Quebec) or a race in Maine. I encourage
everyone to get out there and enjoy the beautiful spring conditions,
the Gatineau Park is still in great shape.
