Nakkertok Eastern Canadian Championships: What you can expect.
By: Craig Storey (2006/02/01)
What should you expect this weekend at the Nakkertok Eastern Canadian Championships?
Competitors, Spectators, Beaver Tails?
More than 550 skiers from BC to Newfoundland have registered for this two-day event that will include some of the best skiers in Canada competing against each other in classic and freestyle races. Spectators are encouraged -- the first 50 spectators get a Fischer Cheering Glove. A Beaver Tail kiosk will also be present (so you can come to Easterns AND get your BeaverTail fix).
Race Photography at the Eastern Canadian Nordic Ski Championships. Harry Nowell Photography, Inc. will be offering Race Photography for racers competing Saturday, February 4th, in the morning. Photos will be available for viewing and purchase at the Banquet Saturday evening only! Be sure to come by the photo booth from 5 pm. onwards. Check www.HarryNowell.com to find out about Photography Workshops, too!
Saturday night Nakkertok will host an awards banquet with a silent auction at the Palais de Congrès for the racers, families, volunteers and spectators. Tickets are still available for the banquet.
Weather and Waxing?
Just about anything according to all forecasts! it might be sensible to pack a raincoat and some good boots. There is a large shelter for athletes to stay dry, and large waxing tent. In terms of selecting the right wax...well it's too early to guess. I'd bet it won't be decided upon until almost start time, and will change throughout the day.
Snow, Course conditions?
There's lots of snow and the course is in great shape! The groomers have been busy, and will be busy all weekend. Expect a rolling fast/flat/fun start, a long gradual climb into a steep climb, more flat/fun sections and fast downhills. Take a look for yourself... (Photos by Jo-Ann Holden, www.musicianonskis.ca)
