Are you a woman who enjoys skiing?  Find a partner and come out and enjoy the fun at Thea’s Race this Sunday. Thea’s Race is for skiers of all levels and it would be great to see more women participating! If you don’t typically “race” but are the mother, sister, grandmother, or aunt of a ski racer - or someone who enjoys watching ski racing - or someone who wants a little challenge - come on out and see what fun participating in a race can be!

.

Nakkertok established Thea’s Race to encourage women to demonstrate their competitive desire and enthusiasm for sport. The event features races for all ages, and a recreational races as well on an easier loop, but the main focus is women’s participation.

Thea’s Fun, Fast and Female Recreational team event

Nakkertok wants to encourage women to come up and enjoy Nakkertok North so organizers are offering a recreational team event just for fun.  This category is open to all women (and everyone gets a prize)! Prizes in the past have been chocolate . . .  so you can bet on something good!

Teams for the Fun, Fast and Female event will be created on site. You must have registered in ZONE4 to to participate by March 2 (Thursday night) – either in the competitive categories or as a recreational skier. The recreational race will be  2 X 1.2km, exact courses to be finalized on race day.

Thea's Race commemorates the contribution made to Nakkertok and women’s sports by Thea Holloway a founding member and past-president of the club.  The race has been held annually since 1995 at Nakkertok North on trails set on land purchased jointly by Thea and Meg Weber and is open to men and women of all categories from Atom to Masters. Two trophies have been provided by the Holloway family, one to be presented to the fastest female team skiing the 1.5km course and the second to the fastest female team skiing the 1.2km course.

Yes, men can participate too! In fact they often outnumber the women by quite a bit - it would be nice to see even numbers - because the main focus of Thea’s is women’s participation in sport.

Register on Zone 4.ca. Deadline is Thursday March 2, 2017 at 23:59 EST.
