XC Ottawa is looking forward to another great season of training, racing, and contributing to the xc ski community. We’re excited about a few changes we’ve made to the team format for this year.  Our main goals as a team  boil down to the following:

Contribute to the growth of cross-country skiing at local, regional and national levels

  • Coaching/mentoring with local junior, U23 and university racing programs

  • Maintaining www.xcottawa.ca as a local cross-country skiing news page

  • Growing and expanding our social media presence (twitter, facebook, instagram) to help better promote cross country skiing to the ski community, athletic community, and general public

  • Maintaining and contributing to www.skitrails.xcottawa.ca to provide skier-based reporting on actual ski conditions at most major Ottawa-Gatineau trail systems

  • Supporting local ski races, events and initiatives in both organizational and promotional capacities.

Help maintain racers in the sport

  • Many skiers leave the sport after their Junior years, and consequently athlete numbers in the Open/Senior category races on all levels of racing circuits in Canada (NorAm, Provincial and Regional) are very low. We believe that teams like XC Ottawa fulfill an important role to show junior racers that they can keep racing and be actively involved in cross country skiing even when they have other obligations (school, jobs, family, etc.).  Keeping skiers in the sport can have a far-reaching impact on cross country skiing in Canada.

  • To this end, this year we have organized an XC Ottawa “training group” (free of charge) for xc ski racers who want to remain actively engaged in the sport and train without necessarily committing to a full-time program of training and racing.

Professionally represent our sponsors, partners, and supporters

  • through our website and social media

  • by racing at a full calendar of events and competitions in the senior-open category, including

    • National and international level competitions such as Nor-AM level racing and the Canadian National Championships and the World University Championships

    • North American loppets and marathons

    • Provincial and regional-level competitions including Ontario and Quebec Cup series events

    • Local races including the National Capital Division Racing Series
