Happy New Year!

It was a crazy holiday period with +16 degree weather on Christmas Eve and a 30-40cm dump of snow on the 29th.  Christmas itself was very brown and people were rollerskiing, cycling and running on Christmas Eve.

Due to the severe lack of snow, the Boxing Day Burnoff was cancelled.  The McCarthy brothers (Tom and Ed - XC Ottawa Alumni) were disappointed about this, so instead they organized an XC Ottawa reunion running race at Nakkertok!

A good showing of XC Ottawa Alumni/current members for the race: Eva Szabo, Justin Demers, Craig Storey, Ed McCarthy, Karl Saidla, Megan McTavish and Tom McCarthy before the run.

It was a great event and everyone braved the muddy course, even though they weren't aware that they were doing a race until they showed up!

The next day, we finally got some snow!  It wasn't much, but it lifted the spirits with a nice white blanket covering the brown and due to some of it being freezing rain, it actually provided a good base and people were even skiing on Burma and Ridge Road!

Luckily, the real snow (and a lot of it!) arrived a few days later.  The park is in great shape considering we have only had snow for a week, and people are out in large numbers with grins on their faces enjoying the fact that winter has finally arrived.

The team is now doing their final preparations for the first NorAm races of 2016 in Thunder Bay.

Happy New Year to everyone, and have a great winter of skiing!
