There was just enough snow in the park this week for some rock skiing on the parkway, and from the looks of the tracks that were left, skiers were keen to take what they could get! Here are a few pictures from a ski that I did on Wednesday…

Although the weather forecast doesn’t look great, rec skiers and racers alike are eager for the ski season to start! For XC Ottawa, our early season race schedule will include the following:

Dec 12th-13th - Sheila will travel westwards for the NorAm races as she has done in the past - for example, in the picture below! This event takes place at the Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre in Vernon, BC (skate sprint and 10km skate).

Dec 19th-20th – The team heads to Craftsbury, VT for the NENSA Eastern Cup #1 (classic sprint and 5km skate for all). We’re looking forward to staying at the Outdoor Centre there, where the races will be held.

Dec 26th – Who could forget the Boxing Day Burnoff?! The team will host this race once again at Nakkertok South, and we strongly encourage all to attend!  The picture below was taken at the Burnoff in 2013.

Jan 14th-17th – The team travels to Thunder Bay for the NorAm World Junior / U23 Trials /Ontario Cup #1 at Lappe Nordic (15/30km skiathlon, 10/15km classic, and skate sprint).  Below is a shot from Nationals last year, which were also in Thunder Bay.

The Coupe Skinouk on January 23rd and the Masters for Juniors sprints on the 24th are two more local events to look out for. These take place at the Relais Plein Air (Gatineau), and Nakkertok South (Cantley), respectively.

Thanks for reading! Don’t forget to do your snow dances!!
