A few important notes for those of you who are already (or should be) getting excited about this year’s Gatineau Loppet:

New Registration Procedure: The heart of the matter is that with a new procedure established for this year, there are a designated number of spots (a “bracket”) available in each race at a particular price. As soon as that number has been reached, entries begin for the next bracket at a higher price. In essence, you are racing against all your friends and enemies to get the cheapest prices and the clock is ticking. As of YESTERDAY, there were only 14 spots available in the cheapest bracket for the 51km classic, for example.  A variety of discounts (e.g., for children under 12, for those doing more than one race, for those registering as a group etc.).

New Dates: Falling on the weekend of February 26-28, 2016, the Gatineau Loppet weekend will be later this year (as we understand it, because of a variety of scheduling conflicts related to the World Cup Ski Tour Canada event). Statistically speaking, this means that there is slightly less chance that you will freeze important body parts. Physiologically speaking, it means you have a week or two of extra time between eating too much Christmas pudding over the holidays and your certain date with destiny at the Gatineau Loppet.

Elite skiers – there might be some free accommodation for you if you look into it now: As usual, the Gatineau Loppet runs a generous elite program by application. In order to attract elite skiers, a limited number of hotel rooms has been reserved for the Friday and Saturday evenings for elite skiers taking part in the 51 km classic style that have a real chance of a top 3 finish overall. To apply, skiers must submit results for national races 30km and over and their licence number (CCC, FIC or other). Interested skiers must apply before January 25, 2016 at info@gatineauloppet.com

51km classic and 53km skate events are now both FIS and Canada Points List eligible. Read the announcement concerning FIS points here: http://www.worldloppet.com/N/227696/fis-points-established-in-all-20-worldloppet-races.php
