XC Ottawa Status Update

For anyone who might be interested in being a member of our racing team (or are just curious!), we thought it would be a good idea to provide a status update concerning our plans for the coming season.

As some readers might be aware, we have been without the services of a professional coach for the past year. This puts the team in a challenging position in terms of fulfilling its mandate. Briefly, XC Ottawa was established to provide the necessary support structure for the development of senior-level skiers wanting to compete at national (i.e. Nor-AM) and international levels

XC Ottawa’s assessment is that the demand for a senior-level elite racing team in the Ottawa-Gatineau area remains strong. On that basis, the team has decided to continue team operations while it tests and considers alternative structures and partnerships.

For the time being, members of the team have been making coaching arrangements on an individual basis, while the team meets for organized training sessions several times per week. XC Ottawa will continue to function as  both a racing team and a CCC-affiliated club. All XC Ottawa skiers are members of the racing team, but they may choose to be members of whatever club they choose. We will continue to organize travel and racing support, and also to represent XC Ottawa and its strong group of supporting organizations and sponsors this winter.

Importantly, team remains committed to its co-operative, athlete-managed organizational model, as well as to its objective of contributing to the growth of cross-country skiing at local, regional, and national levels.

The team has not finalized details with respect to how the official 2015/2016 XC Ottawa racing team will be selected. For the time being, interested potential applicants are invited to e-mail us at team@xcottawa.ca.

Generally, XC Ottawa team members are expected to demonstrate the following:

A. A training/racing history compatible with Nor-Am level racing.

B. Commitment to the following:

-Organized, year-round ski-specific training and regularly attending XC Ottawa training sessions, training camps, racing trips and other community/sponsor-related activities.

-Fulfilling significant team organizational responsibilities.

-Paying team fees on time.

-Professional-level representation of XC Ottawa’s sponsors and supporting organizations

The team has been training hard the past couple of months and we are looking forward to another great season of racing!
