Another abnormally chilly day dawned yesterday at the Lappe Ski Centre here in Thunder Bay. As the sun literally rose, XCOttawa athletes warmed up on what I think I can fairly say would be one of the fastest sprint days at nationals. The tracks were rock solid and long underwear was even worn! A very unusual event for racing at this time of year.
The men were off first on their 1.6km qualifier. Andre was the top XCOttawa male, finishing in the heartbreaking spot of 31st, less than 1sec out of the heats. Steffan finished 33rd, and Mark in 57th.
Next up were the women. Our lone junior woman Logan, qualified in a respectable 18th place. Sheila, Kyla, Ingrid and Katie finished 22, 24, 30 and 36th respectively.
Unfortunately, but not for lack of enthusiasm, all the qualified XCOttawa women were knocked out in the quarter final.
