February 13 Update.

We tested at P5 this morning, and updated the "Fastest" recommendations for glide. On top of LF Green, top with Vauhti GoldFox Powder (or block, ironed in), and cover with HFC black liquid.

We did test these against LF, and these covers were drastically faster than LF alone.

XC Ottawa's Craig Storey and Canadian WinterSports Peter Rozmovits braving the cold to find the fastest wax.

Looks like a great weekend for the loppet!  Over the last two weeks we have received lots of fresh snow and the trails are in top shape. We received 10cm of fresh powder last night and are forecast for a few more on Saturday.

Weekend Weather

Friday night... Low -21C but rising to -18C by Sat. morning.
Saturday... Snow. High -11C.
Sunday... Sunny. Low -23C. High -18C.

So it looks like you should expect expect -20C at start time with a windchill - a balmy Gatineau Loppet compared to most!

This snowfall forecast of 8-15cm Fri-Sunday is also interesting! Might make ski selection more important than wax.

Now onto the good stuff. As always check back as we will be updating these recommendations as we do further testing!

You can buy these Vauhti waxes at Fresh Air Experience: 1291 Wellington W, Ottawa (613) 729-3002.

Saturday - Glide Wax

Fast - 1 layer LF Graphite, 1 layer Vauhti LF Green

Faster - 1 layer of Vauhti LF Graphite, 1 layer of Vauhti HF Green

Fastest -1 layer of Vauhti LF Graphite, 1 layer of Vauhti LF Green + a TBD pure fluoro topper based on Friday morning testing.

**update** Top with Vauhti GoldFox Powder or Block (ironed in), and cover with HFC Black Liquid. We did test these against LF, and these covers were drastically faster than LF alone.

Saturday - Grip Wax

Fast - Vauhti AT binder thin layer ironed in and cooled. Top that with 2-6 layers of fluoro Carrot, finally 1 layer of fluor green cover.
