Last winter our club held a Time Trial on a weekday evening on a section of Gatineau Parkway. The entry fee was by donation, and a silent auction was held at the social that followed the race. Our goal was to raise enough money to assist Zeke Williams - a Nakkertok skier who had helped out our club with some coaching that fall - with his expenses to go to the World Junior Championships.
People were extremely generous and we were able to meet our goals to support Zeke, with money left over to help out the two other area athletes who attended the World Juniors (we called the race Masters for Juniors, with the commitment of donating all revenue to local elite Junior age skiers).
Most of the participants of the race were members of our club - although everyone was welcome - but this year we plan to advertise the event more broadly.
We would like your clubs to communicate to your members the Race Notice, which will be available shortly - the date is Tuesday evening, February 4 - and to nominate any athletes you feel that are especially deserving of our support. Nominations need to be received before January 20.
DATE: Tuesday, February 4, 2014
TIME: Registration from 6:30 to 7:00. Skiers will start two at a time in 30 second intervals, shortly after 7:00.
LOCATION: P8 in Gatineau Park
COURSE: Out and back on the North Loop of Gatineau Parkway, approximately 7 kiilometres
STYLE: Either classic OR skate - your choice
APRES SKI: At La Vallee Restaurant (Highway 105 and Chemin de la Riviere, Exit 21 from Autoroute 5), featuring a silent auction, draw prizes and awards (for both classic and skate; men and women)
ENTRY FEE: By donation. REMEMBER, 100% of all revenue will be donated to young racers from our area. Details will be announced at the Awards Ceremony.
