The Mad Trapper Relentless Trail Race: XCOttawa conquers the Ark

Waking up last Saturday morning, the view from the bedside window was anything but appealing. Two degrees, dark and pouring rain, what better to do than run a trail race?! At least this was the thought process most of XCOttawa went through before heading off to Low Quebec to race the Mad Trapper Relentless Trail Race.
Located approximately one short hour away from downtown Ottawa, The Ark offers acres of twisty-turny, steep ups and downs, rolling terrain perfect for trail running. At this particular event, one could have chosen to race a 50km, 21km but XCOttawa opted for the shorter distances of 10km and 6km.
With a countdown of 3,2,1, GO from race chief and Ark owner, we were off for one of the muddiest races of our lives! Both the 10 and 6km races started at the same time and right from the get go, XCOttawa took the lead! The rain continued to pour and the mud sprayed left, right, and centre, but there was no slowing down. The trails at the Ark are so fun to race on! They zig and zag and although the hills are steep, the course is still rolling and extremely variable; the mud just added that extra element of challenge.
At the end of the race, XCOttawa had a very strong showing! The 6km was dominated by our women's team with the top 5 places (Overall!!) going to the girls of XCOttawa and Carleton University. Special shout out to podium finishers and XCOttawa ladies Liza Rozina and Holly Jones! The 10km top 3 were also from XCOttawa/Carleton with our very own Matt Brown taking the top spot.
