By: Peter Beisel (2013/01/04)
XC Ottawa has been busy this week preparing for, and racing in the Haywood NorAm World Junior/U23/Senior Sprint Trials at Lappe Nordic in Thunder Bay. Lappe Nordic has worked hard to ensure excellent ski conditions and the race organization has been very good. We are quite pleased with Thursday's results and look forward to the classic sprints on Saturday and the medium distance free technique on Sunday.
Here is what happened on Thursday:
Senior Women:
1 | Emily Nishikawa | Whitehorse | 0:45:30.5
2 | Alana Thomas | Nakkertok-ON | 0:45:39.7 | +9.1
3 | Zoe Roy | Rocky Mountain | 0:45:44.9 | +14.4
Ingrid Hagberg (25th, pictured above) was hot on the heels of Megan McTavish who finished 12th in 47:48 followed by Sheila Kealey 19th,
Liza Rozina (28th) speeding through the flats, (above) and Kyla Vanderzwet 30th and Katie McMahon 34th.

2 | Kevin Sandau | Foothills | 1:15:55.6 | +3.7
3 | Graeme Killick | Ptarmigan | 1:15:55.7 | +3.7 |
Karl (above) ran in to a bit of trouble when he discovered he still had a classic ski on after the transition. However the matter was quickly resolved and he still managed to post an impressive time of 1:20:27 to finish 22nd.

Lee Hawkings (223) and Matthias Purdon crest a hill and finish 29th and 26th respectively. Peter Beisel was close behind in 32nd.

Andre Marchand (52nd, above) pursuing Aaron Barter 49th and Logan Potter 51st.

A big shout out to ELOAD/EMEND for supplying the much needed feeds for this serious 30km haul! Nothing helps you get up a hill faster than someone waving an eload feed from the top!
The glide wax of the day from XC Ottawa was a base layer of VAUHTI HF MOLYBDENUM followed by Vauhti gold fox topper and a Vauhti HFC21 gel on the very top. The grip was Vauhti K18 (orange) covered with Vauhti fluor green... Rocket fast!!!!
Thats all for now,
thanks for reading and stay tuned for the upcoming races!
