Canoeing Down the Takhini

Being sick like I have been for the last two weeks makes training less than ideal, however that doesn’t mean you can’t still have fun. Last weekend I got to go on a camping/canoe trip with a couple friends down the Takhini River near Whitehorse. On the trip were Adam, Rhiannon, Alex, and Stephen.

It was a very relaxed trip, leaving late Saturday afternoon and camping just across the river from our cars. We went fishing that night and caught some grayling, which we ate over the fire along with the burgers we got at the grocery store.

The next morning we took all our camping supplies back across the river to the cars in order to have empty canoes for the rapids. We spent the rest of the day enjoying the sun and fishing. The portion of the river we did ended with some bigger rapids nicknamed the Jaws, which were a lot of fun. No one tipped the whole trip even though a lot of us hadn’t canoed down a river in a number of years. It turned out to be a perfect trip while being sick because I got to enjoy the outdoors in a relaxed atmosphere, while not expending to much energy. That’s about all there is to say about the trip but here are some pictures taken by my friend Rhiannon Jones and Adam Vickerman.
