Thea’s Race commemorates the contribution made to Nakkertok and women’s sports by Thea Holloway, a founding member and past-president of the club. The race has been held annually since 1995 at Nakkertok North, on trails based on land purchased jointly by Thea and Meg Weber. It is open to men and women of all categories from Atom to Masters. Two trophies have been provided by the Holloway family, one to be presented to the fastest woman over 12 km and the second to the fastest woman over 6 km.

Thea’s Race is a favourite with children because of the thrilling downhills and, weather permitting, some fabulous snowball fun. This is a great family race!
About Thea Holloway
Thea loved to participate in sports, whether it was cross-country skiing, tennis, cycling or hiking. As a physical education teacher, a volunteer at the Rideau Canoe Club and Nakkertok, and for 35 years a YM-YWCA volunteer and staff instructor, she shared her enthusiasm for sports and life with many people. Nakkertok is pleased to host this race to encourage women to demonstrate their competitive desire and enthusiasm for sport, as was so clearly demonstrated by Thea throughout her life. Thea passed away January 7, 2000, eight years after having a serious stroke.
