Eastern Canadian Championships return to Nakkertok this weekend!
By: Nakkertok (2012/01/31)
Come out to the Nakkertok Nordic Ski Centre with bells clanging to watch, cheer on and get inspired by 650 of Canada’s top Cross Country ski racers as they compete for Podium results at the Haywood NorAM Eastern Canadian Championships this weekend.
Nakkertok is located 900 Ave Gatineau in Cantley Quebec, 12 minutes from Parliament Hill! (Directions)
The Easterns have drawn ski racers to Nakkertok since 2006. It has become the largest competitive cross country ski event in Canada. Why? Because the athletes love the challenging, yet fun race trails at Nakkertok. They know Nakkertok runs a top-notch event, and they have to told us again and again “ you are all so friendly at Nakkertok, we can’t wait to come back”. It takes over 130 skilled and happy volunteers per day to run Easterns.
The entire XC Ottawa Team will be racing, as well as skiers from across the country.
2012 will be the first time Olympians, Brent McMurtry, Drew Goldsack, and Amanda Ammar race at Easterns. Amanda wrote us that she “can’t wait to ski the trails of Nakkertok”.
Also competing at the Easterns will be the 2012 National Junior Team members: Nakkertok's own Emilie Stewart-Jones, Dahria Beatty, Janelle Greer, Anne-Marie Comeau, Raphael Couturier, Knute Johnsgarrd, Geoffrey Richards and Alexis Turgeon from Gatineau.
U23 World Championships Team members Emily Nishikawa, Heidi Widmer, Marlis Kromm, Annika Hicks, Graeme Killick, Jess Cockney, David Greer and Chris Hamilton will also be competing in this three day event.
The races will be intense as the skiers are all competing for World Cup FIS points.
