The 40th Silver Spoon Ski Fest will be held in Deep River Saturday, Feb 11, 2012.
Racers from under 5 years up to Masters Men and women 60+ years can enter classic races on groomed trails (distances from 0.5 km for the youngsters to a challenging 15 km for the experienced skiers). Those new to the sport or wanting a more gentle challenge will enjoy the open races over 3.5 or 8.0 kms, while those who just want to be involved can ski the Participation Mass Start over a 1.5 km course.
Ski skaters will enjoy the challenge of the Skating Knock Out Sprint Races on a 1 km course. These are open to age groups 13 & under, 18 & under, and 19 & up. Prizes for this event are provided by Gearheads sports store in Petawawa.
After the race the awards ceremony will be held in the cafeteria of the race headquarters, St. Mary's School. The day ends with a delicious buffet dinner at the Bears Den restaurant in Deep River.
Details: Classic races start at 11am, with two-person starts every 30s. Knock-out skate sprint races will start at 1:45, with heat starts.
Awards will start around 3:30.

From Ottawa, travel west on highway 17 to Deep River (~2hrs). Turn right into Our Lady of Good Counsel parking lot.
From North Bay, take highway 17 east to Deep River (~1.5hrs). Turn left into Our Lady of Good Counsel parking lot.
