Tentative Racing Schedule for 2011!!

Well, the summer is over and it’s time to get down to business for all of the skiers on XC Ottawa! I was fortunate enough to be welcomed into the famous “Chateau Claymor” residence to join teammates Kyle Power and Lee Hawkings for what I am sure will be one of our best ski seasons so far. Now that we’re all settled in, I have a chance to see what the coming ski season will look like!

For everyone out there who is busy planning out their training, working and racing schedule, I thought I would include a few of the key web links for upcoming events!

It is important to plan the races you plan to attend and what capacity you would like to race them in. You can’t be at your peak for every race and you probably won’t feel one hundred percent your first race of the year! For me this means that that doing a Mt. ST. Anne, Quebec Cup #1 race could be the perfect spring-board into the important NorAm races in Callaghan Valley starting the week of Jan. 9th.  This would have the benefit of being a competitive race, and experience on the race courses for Nationals later in the season.  A few of the other big races that many XC Ottawa members and alumni also tentatively plan to compete in are:

Canmore NorAm, Jan 20th-22nd

XC Ottawa Duathalon, Jan 22nd

Eastern Canadian Championships Feb 3rd -5th

NorAm Orford, Feb 11th -12th

Gatineau Loppet, Feb 18th -19th

OUA Championships, TBA

Nationals Championships, Mt. ST. Anne March 17th- 24th

O-Cup #4, Duntroon March 3rd -4th

This is a comfortable mix of competition and fun racing for me but check out those race calendars to find your own balance for this winter!

Of course there will be many more local races and perhaps some other “big Venue” races that we will get the chance to race in depending on how our season progresses. Stay tuned for further local race information as it becomes available to us!

Good Luck!
