This year's 4th annual XC Ottawa Eload/Emend Duathlon was fun and exciting as always. With fancy new online registration, and classical day-of waiver signing, about 60 people showed up to ski. A special thanks goes out at this point to all the volunteers, especially the grooming and timing crews. The custom stadium set-up and endurance of standing in the chilly night to record results was appreciated by all racers!
The racers themselves were treated to two of the more exciting components of a race; switching techniques, and skiing at night! With a few variations on the course from last year (mainly a different location for the hairpin turn coming off Jack Rabbit to back up the power line) it was an exciting night.
The “Midget and Younger” category raced 1 loop of the classic and 1 loop of the skate, for a roughly 4 km total race length, and the “Juvenile and Older” category raced 2 loops classic and 3 loops skate, totaling about 9 km. Category winners were rewarded with a prize table loaded down with swag from Eload & Emend (and some Efly!), Roeckl, Podiumwear, and Fresh Air Experience.
