We are well into the ski race season now and things are getting busy. A number of us on the Carleton ski team just got back from some races in North Bay. Once we got back we got one training session on Wednesday morning with the rest of the team and they took off for races in Orford, Quebec for the weekend. Then the next weekend the Carleton ski team has OUA Championships in Sudbury, Ontario. Finally the whole team will meet back up in Ottawa for the Eastern Canadian Championships on the third weekend. This will include Colin Abbott who has been racing at the World University Games in Turkey.

The OUA Championship format has changed this year for some interesting racing. Last year the OUA’s were held at Mono Nordic with the first day a distance skate race followed the next day by a classic distance race and then a team relay in the afternoon. This itself makes for some interesting racing with two races on the second day. This year they have changed the format to a Duathlon on the Saturday followed by a team sprint on the Sunday. The exciting part of the event will be that the first person into the exchange zone for the Classic portion wins the “classic race” and then the first person that finishes the race wins the “skate portion.” Some interesting tactics should come out of this format, but with a strong and experienced men’s and women’s team Carleton is exited for the weekend.

Ingrid doing some strong double poling out of the stadium.

Carleton Men's team OUA Champions last year. Were going to work hard and try to do it again.

A race report from Orford will be coming soon!
