The Carleton University Varsity Nordic team traveled to North Bay last
weekend for the first OUA (Ontario University Athletics) qualifier.
The team had a successful trip with everyone skiing really well and
getting some excellent results. The format was 10km skate for the
women and 15km skate for the men on Saturday at North Bay Nordic and a
6.6km classic for the women and a 10km classic for the men on Sunday at
Nipissing University\'s new classic trails. The courses were great and
everyone especially enjoyed trying out the trails at Nipissing
University.
xcOttawa skiers Alana, Lee, Kyle, Colin, and Matthias all participated in the OUA races and are members of the Carlton Varsity team. Alana skied very well and was second in both the skate and classic races. Lee was 17th in the skate and 11th in the Classic chasing Kyle who was 10th in the skate and just out of the podium in 4th in the classic. Colin showed good form coming in 2nd in the skate and 1st in the classic leading by over a minute. Matthias was 5th in the skate race and improved to 2nd in the 10km classic event. It is not very often you have a race weekend in two different locations and this made the event even more memorable. Thanks to the organizers and volunteers for all their hard work! Thanks also to our Coaches John Langston, Greg Mark, and Chris Mamen for all their support. We are very lucky to have such a dedicated and hard working group of coaches with us at university races. OUA races are great events; they have a relaxed atmosphere, bring together friends from universities around Ontario and are a high level competition.
