Boxing Day Burnoff Report and Pictures

Keen skiers who weren't discouraged by the pouring rain, freezing rain, and could manage to scrape the ice off their car windows and navigate their driveways and slick streets might have been a bit surprised when they arrived at Nakkertok on Boxing Day.  Given the weather, many expected the race might be cancelled, and on their side, organizers wondered if anyone would show up. But the Burnoff was held as usual, on schedule, with an expertly marked and well groomed course given the snow and freezing rain.

The team relay format has been popular, and this year had a couple of new twists. . . a course that had skiers bouncing, flying, or just trying to stay on their feet over the fun new Nakkertok bumps, and classic technique instead of skating.

The Fun category teams went first, each skier completing two loops of the course. The Fast and Furious categories raced together, with each skier doing three loops, and all providing endless entertainment for those spectating at the bumps.

Many thanks to the McCarthy family, who, despite all odds, still managed to pull off an excellent and very fun event. Thanks also to all the volunteers who helped make the event happen.

Cameras were few, but Coach Pav didn't forget!  We did manage to get a few pictures from the Fun category race.

Check here for results.
