A quick update here from the two Western alumni. We have just returned from a heartening paddle down the Noire River in western Quebec, which was rad for the water and the company, but less rad for the bugs and the slowness it injected into the legs.
Big news though – when we got back, Ed got an e-mail asking him to join the Canadian Team for the World Mountain Running Championships in Italy!! This means Ed will have competed in world championship events (World University Games, and this one) in two different sports in the 2009 calendar year – this is a pretty mean feat of sportsmanship, if you ask me. And this is no small event either – this is an official IAAF sanctioned World Championship event. It should be – very – rad. And it’s in Italy, in September.

Ed now has a renewed incentive to finish his Master’s thesis on time, so that he can actually go over to Europe for longer than the 4 days strictly required for the race. Under the circumstances, I have no doubt he will be successful.
I’m still steadily working on the fitness and speed, when I can. Did a running workout yesterday – 400s interspersed with 200s – and remained even more consistent on my 400s, running 70-70-69-70, so I was very pleased with that. I’ve lost 10 pounds since the beginning of May, which is a bit disturbing since I’m not sure where it was to begin with, but which I think is a good thing, at least for the running. Perhaps by September I’ll be a worthy training partner for the bro.
