XC Ottawa off to a great start in Canmore
By: Team XC Ottawa (2009/01/04)
Alana and Justin suited up to skate sprint on Saturday. Alana blew us all away with a first place in the B-final, putting her 5th overall in Senior Women. Pretty impressive considering it's her first year in the "big leagues"!
After hanging out in Canmore for a week or so, the rest of the team was itching to race by Sunday. In the womens interval start 10km skate, solid results were had by all:
Megan finished 6th in senior women, followed closely by teammate Alana (8th) and Sheila (11th).
Adele and Zoe raced in the tough Junior women's class, with all the best juniors in Canada out guning for a spot on the World Junior Championships team. They finished a strong 14th and 21st and are super stoked to do a "real" (ie: classic) race tomorrow!
Meanwhile, in the man race Karl led the way with an 18th place finish and Justin in 31st. Justin reports feeling that this was one of his best ever skate races and both our men are excited for tomorrow's 30 kilometer pursuit. Colin was our lone Junior man racer and matched Justin's 31st in a very strong Junior men's field.
