Silver Star Update: Mass start distance skate - great race for Karl! (with pictures)
By: Team XC Ottawa (2008/12/11)
It was a beautiful sunny day and the race start was a very respectable 1pm. Karl started the team off and skied with the lead pack for the first 12.5 km (of 20km). He finished less than 1 minute behind the winner, Alex Harvey, for one of his best races in recent memory, being competitive all the way through. In the end, Karl finished 12th overall in a strong field of Canadians and Americans. He was the 6th Canadian to cross the line. Good job Karl!

The women started 22 minutes after the men. It was also a strong field with a large contingent of top Americans. Megan had a tough start, getting tangled up in a fall after only 400m. Despite this, she felt good and gradually picked off people throughout the race. She finished 22nd (10th Canadian). Sheila had an ok race, finding herself alone for most of it. Her final result was 26th (12th Canadian). Adele decided not to start today due to a hectic race schedule in the next couple of weeks.
