Once again, join families, fast folks, and little ski fiends at the 2008 Boxing Day Burnoff at Nakkertok Nordic. Come on out to this fun-first race and put up your dukes against all challengers. Our course and format will be very similar to last years, with some additional twists added in, as usual, to make things interesting. But you probably won’t know about those till race day. Better come out to find out!!
Race Format: Team Sprint. A team sprint is two people, each of whom do multiple laps. Length and number of laps will be slightly related to a) age and directly related to b) the number of servings of turkey n’ stuffing you had the night before.
Teams: You can either show up with a team (two people), or show up on your own, and we will put you on a team.
Categories: We will likely have three categories: Fun, Fast, and Furious. You can choose which category you’d like to be in, based in part on your shrewd judgment of the speed of your team-mate. The Fun category will be shorter than the other two. The Fast category will be a no-frills full course, but may have fewer laps than the Furious race. Weather and course creativity permitting, the Furious category will be a full course and have some wicked bumps and turns to deal with. No promises though, except that we’ll do our best!
Technique: Skating
Who: Everyone and anyone is welcome to participate, whether you’ve raced before or watched your kids race. Some people may be going fast, but others will be staggering under the weight of prodigious turkey consumption the previous night.
When: 10:00 start on December 26th – but please be there by at least 9:30 to register
Where: Nakkertok Nordic Centre
Registration: Register on the day-of, at the Nordic Centre Cabin. Please try and be registered between 8:00 and 9:30 so we can madly figure out start brackets.
Cost: $5 per person or $10 per team.
Costumes: Please. Outrageous preferred.
Prizes: The most awesome thing in our basements.
Grooming: Definitely awesome.
Volunteering: Really? THAT would be awesome. Track Tom or Ed down when you get there and we’ll find a job for you.
