After a pretty fun summer, and a long but productive fall, the race season is finally here! Karl, Megan, Sheila and I arrived in Silverstar on Saturday night to prepare for our races in a week. These will be the first races for anyone in Ontario since the NorAm in Foret Montmorency was cancelled due to lack of snow.
We decided to come a whole week early to get used to altitude, ski in a new location and hopefully have plenty of time to enjoy the stunning Rockies as well!
We did our first ski yesterday morning. Since we have lots of time until our races, we had planned to do a long classic ski. The very mild conditions made most shrink away from the task of klister and just skate instead but we persevered and ended up having bullet-proof grip with just one layer of universal klister. After a leisurely morning, we had a spectacular 3 hour ski right from our doorstep over the pass to Sovereign and back.
After rain yesterday night, the trails were frighteningly icy this morning. We still managed a skate ski, which much improved our balance and snow plow skills.
Hopefully the forecasted snow tonight will improve everything for tomorrow!
