XC Ottawa's Alana Thomas (Carleton U), and XC Ottawa Alumni Ed McCarthy (UBC) and Gavin Hamilton (Foothills/U Calgary) were selected to the Canadian Team to compete at the World University Games. The 2009 edition of the Games (University Games are held every 2 years) will be held in Harbin, China. Harbin is the capital of Heilongjiang province in the northeast of China, known for its long winters and short summers.
The Winter Universiade consists of six standard sports and some others chosen by the organizers. The Tarvisio 2003 games recorded the largest number of participants (1,935), whereas the Muju-Chonju (Korea) 1997 games recorded the largest number of nations participating (48).
The Harbin games will be held February 18-28, 2009.
