Like the many people who came from near and far for this year’s “Gloppet”, XC Ottawa skiers enjoyed a great weekend of racing amid the socializing and general commotion that comes along with Canada’s most popular cross country ski race.
The last article I wrote outlined a few of my complaints with respect to some of the more modern race courses and formats. This event report allows me to provide an example of a race which is successful despite making few concessions to new trends.

March 21st marked the last race of this year for most XC Ottawa racers, and what better way to end the season then with a gruelling 50km Skate race for the men, or a 30km skate for the women! Some great racing by the team on our last day of Nationals
The first race at the 2006 National Championships took place this morning under ideal conditions. XCOttawa skiers Karl, Ed and Craig were up for the men while Megan, Eva and Linnea represented for the women.

Update for the last day of racing in Canmore
Never before has one group of skiers displayed such ability and grace. The endless years of occasionally attempting something similar to a telemark turn on our racing skis finally came to fruition. Poetry in motion is all that could be said. The Americans
I was lucky enough to accompany Karl and Megan on their trip to Vermont for ski selection and had a somewhat different experience to Karl.
